Little Spring Park: Now With More Park

Finished.

The series that I began months ago is finally complete, and just in time for Picturesque. Little Spring Park is my 7 foot long, 5 part watercolor of downtown Huntsville’s Big Spring Park. I’ve always enjoyed riding my bike and walking Betty in the park, so I thought it would be fun to consolidate my favorite parts of the park into one nice little visual stream. Have a look at the painting in this short video that my friend JD Frey of Dead Worker’s Party helped me put together.

Want to pre-order prints of Little Spring Park to pick up at my show this Saturday? Hurry! I go to the printer Wednesday morning, so order HERE now!

TokBox is Top of the Pops

Do you ever have days where you spend countless hours clicking through the vast changing landscape of new and innovative web services, applications, and add-ons? Today was one of those days for me. I probably added twenty new things to Firefox and uninstalled 18 of them immediately. My favorite new feature of Firefox is Personas, an add-on that let’s you instantly change the theme of your browser with a single click. I’m pretty sure I will design a Persona of my own soon and link to it here for anyone who wants a Dustin Timbrook themed online experience. I also plan on creating an iGoogle skin at some point, but that requires some xml knowledge that I don’t have yet.

I even tried out Second Life for the first time.

I even tried out Second Life for the first time.

Most of the new apps and services that I sign up for don’t hold up too well. Often they are based on interesting concepts, but just aren’t practical enough to put to regular use. Occasionally I find something really helpful though. I will share a few here. Read More »

Now with Facebook Connect!

Hooray! I just finished installing the brand new Facebook Connect feature for Happenin Records’ comments. Now you can post comments using your Facebook account. No more need to post anonymously or set up a new account.

Webcam comments, Youtube comments, and now Facebook comments! This is going to be a lot of fun.

I am eager to test this feature out, so why not post a comment somewhere on the site. You could share some encouraging words about my creepy Grampaw situation, give Shortwave Society some love after listening to my first ever podcast, or you could discuss the latest addition to my found-art collection, a middle school student’s inspiring rendering of a heroin-addicted gangsta baboon.

Happenin Records Reborn

Two years ago, when I was just a boy, I dreamed of launching a website with awesome local indie music, funny videos about dead animals and get-rich-quick schemes, and regular updates. My business partner Chris and I were able to accomplish those first two items easily, but the regular updates proved much more difficult with the cumbersome design of our huge, graphics-heavy website. After much deliberation I finally decided to scrap the old site and start from scratch.

It’s time for a new Happenin Records. A better Happenin Records.

Although the new Happenin Records website is still under heavy construction, you can expect to enjoy a slew of new features in just a matter of days. Among these new features will be a lot more videos, including work from our archives, a new home for the Max Magician and the Legend of the Rings Fanclub, and a new digital download store that will let you download Happenin Records’ MP3’s cheaply, direct from our site. pz4ayev852

There will also be a change in the content you see here. In order to keep HappeninRecords.com regularly updated I will be posting a lot more of my own personal goings on, including essays, art work, and who knows what else. My goal within the next couple of months is to establish a site that has new content every day of the year. So expect a much more personal Happenin Records, with a lot more stuff from me, like this sexy new watercolor I did last weekend…

Picnic Crab by Dustin Timbrook

One of the features I’m most excited about is our new enhanced commenting system that allows visitors to do all kinds of fancy stuff, like login with their Facebook accounts (coming soon), post video comments via webcam, and keep up with conversations with email reminders. I hope that this will encourage lots of discussions and flame wars at Happenin Records, so why not start one now? The first person to post a video comment to this post will get a free Three Happenin Guys CD of their choice.

I look forward to working with you friends, fans, and RSS followers to create an active web site that always has something entertaining or enlightening to offer. Come back soon for the next update.
